Why I chose Wix for small business website design

Updated: Jan 23, 2019

When I first started designing websites, I worked a bit in Squarespace, Showit, Weebly and Wix. Wix immediately stood out to me as being the easiest to learn, navigate and customize. These are important features for me and especially for my clients, because it allows them to have full control of their websites, and easily learn to maintain their sites themselves. Below are a few of the key reasons why Wix is my choice for small business websites.

web design, custom wix websites, home office website designer

1. Limitless and easy to use

As I said above, WiX is super easy to use and easy to learn. It is a cloud-based "drag & drop" platform. This is great for both me as the designer, and you as a client who might want to make a few of your own changes from time to time. Customization of any feature of your website is never limited in WiX, you are also not limited to a selected template. Because it is drag and drop, you or your designer can create anything imaginable, and the best part is you see it come to life on your screen immediately.

2. The mobile version is also customizable

With nearly everyone having a smart phone these days, having a mobile-friendly website is crucial for optimal viewing of your website content on all devices. Instead of accepting the mobile version automatically created for you in some website builders, you can switch the Wix editor to view the mobile version, and rearrange, move, hide, adjust font size etc. of any element on your site.

3. Add even more functionality to your site with the hundreds of Apps Wix has built in

The WiX App Market is full of any and every thing you could possibly want to add to your website. With Apps the functionality of your site is endless. Together we can build an online store to sell products, services or registrations for events or classes. You can use PayPal, Stripe or other payment systems to process your payments with no ongoing monthly fees. You can also easily integrate your WiX website with third-party e-commerce systems. With the WiX Hotels App we can build a beautiful and user-friendly website for your hotel, motel or bed & breakfast. With the Menu App we can make your restaurant menu available for customers to view or even order online, and set it up so a rotating menu is easy to change daily.

4. WiX has great Search Engine Optimization (SEO) features

WiX allows complete customization of Search Engine Optimization. You can setup tags, keywords, alt text, and custom page titles so that you can optimize all of your webpages to help Google and other search engines index and rank your website. The Wix SEO Wizard will walk you through the steps if you are doing this yourself. If I am building your website, then of course I’ll be taking care of this for you.

5. Wix is Affordable

Other than purchasing a domain name, (and Wix will actually give you one free for a year when you upgrade your site to one of their premium plans) you only pay one annual fee to have your website on Wix. Certain Apps have minimal add-on fees, and e-commerce stores for example, have a slightly higher subscription cost, but comparatively, Wix is very cost effective. This page will give you an overview of the Wix premium plans. In addition, if you choose to maintain your site yourself (the best part!), you will save tons more money not paying a web developer a monthly rate.

6. You can maintain your site yourself!

Really, the #1 advantage of having your website designed on WiX is that you can maintain it yourself. You will have full control of when you change your content and update your website, if you choose to. No coding knowledge is required to edit your site. WiX was created with the average person in mind.

That brings me to the end of the primary reasons I chose Wix for all my client’s websites. And reason #6 is the motivation behind creating this blog series. Working with me you will get a professionally designed, custom website, built with your clientele and industry in mind. After that though, I want you to feel confident in maintaining your new site yourself, if you choose to. My “Wix Website Design” category of blog posts will hopefully achieve exactly that.
